How to Choose Your Water Jerry Can

For your nomadic activities or travels (excursions, camping, ...), it's essential to have one or more water jerry cans in your motorhome, van, or campervan. A good food-grade jerry can should be suited to your drinking water consumption while remaining easily portable and not taking up too much space.

On average, you need about 100 liters of water for 2 people over 4 days to live in a van. With a capacity of 15 liters, this canister allows you to be self-sufficient for all your water needs: consumption, hygiene, dishes... Additionally, the jerry can is very easy to store, as its dimensions allow it to fit in a Combeing box. Easily transportable thanks to its handle and practical to use with its 360° rotating tap.

What Jerry Can for a Van?

We recommend a medium-capacity water jerry can (10-20 liters) with a handle to facilitate handling the water reservoir and to avoid it being too heavy to carry.

Our water jerry can features a tap for simplifying daily use.

How to Install a Water Tank in a Van?

We do not recommend installing a fixed tank in a van because removable tanks offer more flexibility in water management in a van.

For cleaning, it is also more cumbersome to clean a fixed water tank in the body of a van than a mobile jerry can.

How to Install Water in a Van?

To install water in a van, you have 2 options:

  1. A fixed installation by modifying the vehicle's body.
  2. A mobile water jerry can (much more practical)

You will need to either use a water pump to draw water from the reserve or use natural pressure by positioning the water canister higher than the container to be filled.

Where to Refill Your Van with Water?

You can refill your van with water by finding spots using an app like Park4Night:

  1. At a campsite
  2. In public restrooms
  3. Water points located directly on the road
  4. Kindly asking a local resident

Make sure to plan ahead for water before any road trip; it's better to have too much water than to run out on the road.
