Combeing has designed a portable dry toilet that fits into our concept of a removable, portable, transportable kit.

Our portable toilet consists of:
- A wooden box (poplar) that has the same characteristics as the B22 box
- A base with an imprint to hold a plastic or stainless steel bucket for dry toilet
- Its food-grade plastic bucket of 21 liters with a lid to make the whole set airtight
- A top box in Compacmel, very resistant with a toilet bowl imprint
- A box lid to make the whole discreet in its removable kit for van
- A wing nut to secure the portable toilet on our Combeing floors
How does a portable dry toilet work?
Nothing is simpler than using a portable dry toilet.
- Just place a bag (biodegradable of course!) in a bucket
- Then, you do your business in the portable dry toilet
- Finally, cover everything with sawdust and wood shavings
- From time to time, throw the bag in a regular trash can or you can bury it after digging a hole to leave no trace of your passage

The advantages and disadvantages of a portable toilet

The advantages of portable toilets
There are many advantages to choosing a portable toilet
Indeed, you can easily move your dry toilet outside, to be discreet under a shower tent like the one offered by Decathlon, on days when there are many people inside the van
Also, if you go for a sports outing or plan a camping trip, you are not obliged to bring your dry toilet. Leave it at home and save space to position your bike rack instead
You understood, this portable toilet fits perfectly into our concept of a modular and removable conversion kit, you take it with you whenever you want!
Easy to empty, you just need to throw the bag in the trash or bury it (if it's a biodegradable bag of course!)
The disadvantages of portable toilets
There are few if any disadvantages to portable dry toilets.
Even though chemical toilets are predominantly present in motorhomes, it is false to think that they are more practical than dry toilets.
Indeed, with a portable chemical toilet, you will need to empty it into a dedicated reservoir
For ecology, no need to specify that this blue liquid that smells of chemicals does not grow trees unlike wood shavings or sawdust.
Honestly, don't hesitate to opt for portable dry toilets, it's the type of toilet that fits best into vanlife

Does a portable dry toilet have odors?
You will be surprised, but the answer is NO!
We know, it's counterintuitive, one might think that the dry toilet smells strong but that's a mistake
In fact, if you have a cat, you realize the odors that can be present
When you take action, there is a slight punctual odor but it fades after 3 minutes
You must of course cover with wood shavings and sawdust
And then, like an animal's litter, after several uses, you need to change the litter (in our case throw the biodegradable bag) to avoid long-term odors.
By following these recommendations, you will not have odors, and anyway, compared to the odors of the blue liquid from portable chemical toilets, you have some margin!
How to use a portable toilet?
It's quite simple, just like at home:
- Just open and remove the lid of the plastic bucket
- Add a biodegradable bag if it's not already present
- Do what you have to do
- Cover everything with sawdust and wood shavings
- Empty the portable toilet bucket from time to time by throwing the bag in a regular trash can

What other accessories should I prepare for my portable dry toilet?
The world of portable dry toilets is all new to you and you want to make sure you don't forget anything before heading out on an adventure, no worries, we tell you everything.
Bags for portable toilet

There is no doubt, choose compostable bags to put at the bottom of your toilet
There are bags labeled "OK Compost" that are biodegradable in a few days.
Sawdust and shavings

Be careful, we told you that there are few or no odors in a portable dry toilet.
But you must remember to cover with sawdust and wood shavings after each use.
You can buy it or find it in sawmills where the wood (pine or fir) will be natural. Avoid chemically treated woods.
Eco-friendly toilet paper

Statistics show that the use of toilet paper each year is impressive!
Don't hesitate to pay a few cents more for eco-friendly toilet paper, especially if you choose to bury your waste to use it as natural compost.
Where to empty my portable dry toilet?
You need to frequently empty the contents of your dry toilet to avoid odors
It's simple, just throw the bag and its contents in a regular trash can or bury it (if the bag is biodegradable of course!)
