Here is the result of her converted van before/after the transformation:
What is the best brand for a converted van?
Combeing kits fit all utility vehicle models, so you can choose the brand that suits your budget or preferences.
For Miss France (Vaimalama Chaves) and her partner Nicolas Fleury, they chose a Volkswagen Transporter T4 with 400,000 km on the clock, reflecting their adventurous spirit and love for renovating older models.
Here are some photos of their utility vehicle before converting it into a van:
Before moving to the van insulation step, we sanded all the rust spots on the vehicle and applied an anti-rust product to prevent further rust on the vehicle’s body.
What is the best insulation for a converted van?
After testing various van insulation solutions, sprayed cork proved to be the most appropriate. We explain why in this article with a detailed tutorial if you want to do it yourself: https://combeing.fr/amenagement-fourgon/179-amenagement-fourgon-isolation-liege-projete
What is the cost to tint the windows of a converted van?
For tinting the vehicle’s windows, we called on an expert, Glass Protect 42.
The cost is about €500 for the 4 windows and the rear windshield.
The tinted film blocks UV rays from entering the vehicle, helping delay heat buildup inside the insulated van. Its opaque effect also preserves privacy. In the event of an accident, the window is less likely to shatter, and the film will hold the broken glass together. Several advantages justify the price of the service.
We also took the opportunity to add a vehicle wrap to their converted van.
What floor should I choose for a utility vehicle?
We chose a 15mm okoumé plywood floor because it is sturdy and resistant to humidity and temperature changes.
It is easy to work with, making it an asset when making precise cuts to fit the contours of the utility vehicle with a density of about 500 kg/m3.
Derived from raw wood, it also aligns with environmental respect efforts.
A water-based varnish was applied to the floor for protection.
How do you fix plywood in a utility vehicle?
For the wood paneling of the converted van, we used existing panels as templates and then cut the shapes from 5mm okoumé plywood.
To fix it, plastic clips were placed in the existing holes and self-tapping screws were used to secure the custom wood kit.
The panels were protected with Rubio oil in a dark finish, which is very easy to use. A water-based varnish was also applied to protect the entire paneling.
We also added a ceiling light to finish the roof of the van.
What is the cost of a converted van?
If, like Miss France (Vaimalama Chaves) and her partner Nicolas Fleury, you already own a van, you should budget between €3,000 and €4,000 to transform it into a converted van using the Combeing solution.
They chose flexibility by opting for the homely kit when they need lots of storage and the option to switch to the sport kit when they need to carry bulky equipment (a compartment under the bed is available for this purpose).
The bed size is enormous for great comfort inside their van.
They selected the following accessories:
- a kitchen with 2 cooking plates to cook inside and outside
- a compression fridge for cold storage
- energy is provided by our portable battery that they can recharge while driving via the van's cigarette lighter, a standard household socket, or foldable solar panels
- a shower with an integrated battery for hygiene on wild camping days
Why choose Combeing rather than a pre-converted van?
Our kits fit all vans, so you may already have a van and just want to add an interior setup for a weekend or vacation trip.
Since our kits fit all vans, even if you switch models along the way (for example, if your current van has too many kilometers), you will only need to buy a new floor base to adapt your current kit to your new van model. Regardless of the van's length, the floor is the only difference between our conversion kits. The modules remain the same, so you can reuse your kit at a low cost.
The price difference is also incomparable; you will have to spend between €50,000 and €100,000 for a pre-converted van. With Combeing, you preserve your initial budget and can enjoy your vacation, camping, etc...
Since we move a cube to switch to night mode, our bed spans the width of the vehicle, offering great sleeping comfort in the van.
You can change your configuration at any time by moving the cubes according to your activity, whether you need one or multiple beds in your van.
You’ll be able to camp wherever you want, whether it’s at a campsite or by a lake, away from noise.
You can discover our kits in rental agencies all over France and even bring your own van; we’ll test it in your vans as it only takes 5 minutes to install the product.
